Natural gas belongs to the family of “fossil fuels”. It is a natural response to the request of every family, of every household, for convenience and comfort.
Natural gas saves energy in cooking, produces hot water when needed and without any waste, heats the house when and how it is needed. Some simple measures are enough to be used safely.

Natural gas eliminates the need to refuel and store fuel: as long as you turn on the tap and its energy is there, ready to be used. You only pay for the amount of gas you have used and only after you use it, while the consumption is easily controlled by reading the meter reading.
It is a fuel with limited environmental impact
Natural gas is distributed through special pipes, as it is extracted from the natural deposition cavities: from extraction to consumption without treatment. Natural gas is distinguished for its high energy efficiency and for the limited effects on the environment, since its combustion leaves no traces and residues, nor does it produce sulfur compounds that constitute one of the most important causes of pollution.
It is safe
Natural gas does not contain toxic substances. In its natural form it is colourless and odourless. Its smell is given at the stage of distribution, so that one can perceive its presence with the slightest escape. The installation of natural gas in the house is carried out quickly and easily, in accordance with the applicable provisions and by properly trained personnel holding the license prescribed by law.

Proper electrical installation
The internal gas installation consists of all the pipes, fittings, instruments and appliances (kitchen, burner, boiler, etc.) located after the delivery-receipt point (gas meter), from the ventilation openings of the premises, where the gas appliances, up to the exit of the exhaust system. Strict implementation criteria have been established for the absolute safety of gas installations, which are required by law for installers. These criteria are contained in the Technical Regulation of Natural Gas Installations with operating pressure up to 500 mbar, Ministerial Decision Δ3 / Α / οικ 6598, Φ.Ε.Κ. 976, Issue B / 28-03-12.
The European quality label
Gas appliances fall within the scope of the European Gas Appliances Directive (2009/142 / EC) and must bear the CE mark on the appliance or on the appliance plate (guaranteeing that the appliances comply with the safety standards) and be appropriate for the country of destination (GR). This means that the Greek rules of installation and connection have been taken into account and that instructions for use and installation are available in the Greek language, taking into account the Greek conditions of installation.
Autonomous heating – Hot water
Autonomous boilers cover the needs of an apartment only for heating or for heating and hot water.
In the case of heating, the device is connected to the hydraulic installation of the apartment or house, ie the water pipes that supply the radiators, while for the hot water supply there is a hydraulic connection for the hot water supply to the kitchen or the bathroom.
In the market you can find mostly autonomous wall-mounted boilers, as well as floor-standing boilers.
The installation space of the wall-mounted autonomous boilers is usually in the kitchen, the bathroom or on balconies and depending on the way the combustion air is supplied and the way the exhaust gases are exhausted, they are characterized as either open or closed type.
Open type boilers receive the combustion air from the interior space in which they are located and the exhaust gases are exhausted through a chimney (provision of ventilation of the installation area), while closed type boilers receive the hot air from the external environment.
Continuous flow water heaters – Storage water heaters
DC water heaters are gas appliances in which the gas burner operates when there is a demand for hot water (5 to 18 lt / min).
Storage water heaters are preferred where large quantities of hot water with a storage capacity of 40 to 300 lt are required.
In the trade there are kitchens that use natural gas either in the hearth and in the oven, or mixed, that is, where some of the hearths or the oven operate on electricity.
Kitchens usually have automatic ignition and must necessarily have a flame monitoring fuse, ie a special device that does not allow the flow of gas when there is no flame (thermocouples). The requirements and their installation space depend on the power of the device, in accordance with the provisions of the regulation.
For the use of natural gas in the central heating, the replacement of the burner is often enough. In the boiler room of the building is installed the boiler-burner system that heats the water. This water then circulates to the radiators. In cases where the boiler is very old, it is recommended to replace it to achieve a higher degree of efficiency. The central heating boiler can be combined with a boiler for the production of hot water.
The burners are distinguished in terms of their mode of operation in single-stage, two-stage, multi-stage (operation at a specific level or power levels) and depending on the gas pressure in the boiler flame chamber at atmospheric or pressure
Ventilation of spaces
All fuels require a certain amount of oxygen to burn. Therefore, it is important that the spaces in which appliances are installed have the appropriate dimensions, are constantly ventilated (depending on the type and power of the appliance) and have the appropriate flues for the exhaust exhaust always in accordance with the provisions of the Technical Regulation.
Gas combustion products are discharged to the external environment. This is done through special chimneys (depending on the type of appliance) in accordance with applicable law.
It is important to regularly check the condition and efficiency of the exhaust system to make sure it is not clogged by nests or other objects. The devices that are on the market today are even safer, since they are equipped with a mechanism to stop their operation, in case of reversal of the flow of exhaust gases to the interior.
All the details for the extraction of the products of combustion are contained in the current Technical Regulation, which must be observed by the supervisor and gas installer.
Regular maintenance: a short useful appointment
The safety of gas installations depends on proper operation, good management, regular inspection and scheduled (preventive) maintenance carried out in accordance with the Operation and Maintenance Schedule and the updated file of the gas installation.
The consumer is only allowed to carry out “installation inspection” and takes care of the regular maintenance of the devices as well as the piping.
Regular maintenance of gas appliances, adjustment of the burner, cleaning of the boiler and overall control of the installation, ensures you energy savings, improved efficiency and safety. Careful cleaning of the burner (and heat exchanger) and possibly its adjustment to ensure good combustion is required (when the flame is not bright blue, but yellow tongues appear and remain).
It is important to control the efficiency and proper operation of the systems / devices of regulation, safety and control, as well as to control the efficiency of the ventilation of the space where the appliances and the systems of exhaust gas combustion are installed.
It is necessary in accordance with the Technical Regulation, to carry out a check of the tightness of the piping of the installation every 4 years with appropriate measures by a licensed installer and the issuance of a corresponding certificate of re-inspection.
In addition, an analysis of the products of combustion must be carried out, in order to determine the efficiency of the boiler and the maximum exhaust gas values set by the Law with a frequency defined according to Government Gazette 2654 / 09-11-2011 “Regulation of issues related to the operation of fixed fireplaces for heating buildings and water “.
The electrical technician records the results of the inspections and analyses in the installation book which must be kept at the installation site, according to the approved operation and maintenance schedule.
